Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of reporting any debt imaginable to the credit bureaus. I guess I thought the whole point of a “credit report” and “credit score” was for “CREDIT” accounts, not accounts where being extended credit has nothing to do with it. My doctor’s office loves to send letters regarding bills that are less than a month old, stating that if you don’t pay up immediately, they will turn the account over to a collection agency, who will then report to the credit bureau if you don’t cooperate. Excuse me! The doctor certainly does not extend credit for services.
It’s totally gotten out of control as to what can be reported to the credit bureaus, who can gain access to your credit report, etc. Something needs to be done, as this ruins people’s lives. I am not saying that people shouldn’t pay their bills, but I think there needs to be a line drawn somewhere as to messing with someone’s credit report.
